PROJECT
FINISHED
This is a project for the Canarias Cabrera Pinto High School, an institution which is located in a beautiful historical building, with important collections inside. Both, the education heritage and the development through different generations is reflected in them. The environment in which young people learn is very important . It is also a center where multilingual education , and exchanges with other European High Schools have been constant . In recent years it has made a major commitment to modernize through the new technologies in classrooms and making new ways of learning accessible .
Our High School welcomes very different types of students : with both rural and urban backgrounds. Also, reference center for students with hearing difficulties. In general , the standard of academic performance is high for the older students . However, in the first years of secondary education , or “middle education”the levels of failure and school dropout are high compared to the objectives set by the European Union for the coming years.
Just now there are 22 teachers involved in this project , but it is open to new teachers wishing to participate in the future.90 % of them have a definite post in our center, which gives it continuity. They are experienced hard-working teachers. They have done courses in ICT and new technologies. They have also participated in the development plans that have been performed at our institution, willing to improve the teaching-learning process , and so, throughout their career they have made lots of refresher courses. In addition, many of them coordinate and / or are actively involved in major projects being developed at our institution : Making our Museums visible, School Exchanges, CLIL Project, ICT Coordination, Curiosity Project, among others. Also, the Director, the Deputy director and Head of Studies for Blended Learning are part of our Project.
In addition, among the participants there are representatives from the departments of biology, foreign languages (English , French , Italian, Latin , Greek) mathematics, physics and chemistry, history , technology , physical education, economy and drawing. Finally , we have teachers with experience in other European projects management, such as Leonardo, Comenius and Erasmus.
The mobility activities proposed aim at improving aspects of the European dimension that are enriching, and promote creativity and motivation in the process of teaching and learning, and at the same time improve their lingüistic competence in different European languages. It is considered that the teaching of languages through other subjects is an effective tool , and therefore we intent to continue working in this direction. Some teachers consider it a priority to improve or refresh their language skills in other to join this project (CLIL). Exchanging pedagogical experiences or job shadowing with other historical Institutes is an experience that benefits our institution. In one of the lines of our project, the participating teachers are going to organize self-guided thematic tours based on the heritage of the school , both the building itself and the museums. In that way, our heritage can also enrich our present generation of students .
There will also be job shadowing in other High Schools in Spain, France and Denmark with experiences in good practices and good academic results in students. Aspects in which we would like to improve.
Finally , our project aims at introducing new approaches to teaching, as the Bachibac (double French/ Spanish Baccalaureate), so some teachers need training in French Institutes in which this modality is taught .
We will conduct a collaborative work , establishing different lines of action. One them is using the eTwinning platform to get in contact and collaborate with other partners.
Our project will benefit the educational community as a whole, strengthened by the collaborative work and the common goals we share. The students are the ones who will benefit most from our mobility program. They will have the chance to get to know their heritage and create products that involve a service to their community. They can also relate to other European students and as a result , develop their communicative skills, and use the new technologies too . All this is work will be an important part of their training in the professional sector in which they wish to work .
