Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the project entitled «Teachers’ Education to promote risk awareness in school laboratories and workplaces» will take part 15 teachers of the Mechanical Engineering sector of our school. The activities of this project are to be implemented in Lisbon in April 2015. In the 1st LABORATORY CENTRE of Trikala there are seven ( 7) mechanical engineering laboratories- not to mention the rest that have to do with its other specialties. A lot of students attending the vocational high schools of our town practise in these laboratories. Mechanical Engineering is the best-developed specialty of our school since a lot of students prefer attending its subjects: it is a very popular specialty among them. 25 specialized teachers work in the laboratories mentioned above: most of them have never been given the chance to get in contact with another educational system; they have never been given the chance to visit laboratories of other European Vocational/Technical Schools either. Furthermore, they lack the experience of practising in a laboratory relative to their specialty since they have never had the chance to work as professionals as far as their specialization is concerned. Thus, it is very crucial for them to train in school laboratories and working places abroad of another European country, so that they will be able to get familiar with modern working environments, the rules of safety one has to abide by once he/she practices/works in there, to acquire a lot of valuable knowledge and experience in order to practise in the right way, to develop their creativity and look for solutions to safety problems that may emerge during the students’ practice. Moreover, they will acquire skills that will help them to upgrade the old technological equipment of their laboratories by applying simple, novel ideas- taking all safety rules into account of course. These persons will train in terms of theory in the facilities of the host organization in charge, they will practise in school units, companies and institutions that deal with the checking of working places, they will visit specific mechanical engineering companies, they will be informed about the Portuguese educational system and, finally, they will pay visits to places, monuments, museums, etc. of high cultural importance in Lisbon. The project will definitely be for the benefit of the participating teachers since they • will acquire important technical knowledge ( as we have mentioned above), • will improve their language/linguistic skills, • will be aware of the capabilities and chances offered by “Erasmus+ project,” • will be partakers of the impact and benefits of this project on the educational and/or general public. We do have great expectations of this project since we do hope that it will be for the benefit of our school unit too since we will be given the opportunity to: • have our laboratories redesigned according to the most recent regulations of safety that are fully adapted with all European Union instructions • to improve the technological infrastructure of our laboratories • to acquire the technical knowledge that is necessary for us to deal with further European projects in the future • to create “bridges of communication” with schools and businesses of the host country since we are constantly aiming at the perpetual improvement of our infrastructure and background as well. The ramifications of this project will be of high importance since it will urge more schools/school units to participate in such projects in the future. Also, it will inform local society on/about the opportunities the Erasmus+ project offers to businessmen, young people, associations, clubs and every person who wishes to enhance his/her knowledge and skills. In the long run, we do wish that our school will meet European high- quality requirements by participating in projects like this one.
