The overall objective of the project was to improve the state of the environment throughout the project area and to establish cross-border partnership to solve environmental problems. Its specific objectives addressed the need for common cross-border planning of waste management infrastructure (connecting development actors and waste management operators in the project area; establishing the feasibility of a possible common SLO-R infrastructure for waste processing and hazardous waste management; transferring knowledge and developing a common waste management programme for the whole region). Achievements: Thanks to the project, a database on all waste collected in the border area was set up; the most significant result of the project was a feasibility study of the construction of joint centres for non-hazardous waste processing and hazardous waste management; the project was also successful in transferring knowledge on modern waste management systems with the help of three cross-border workshops, a common forum and an information brochure.
