The project „Ecology in hotel tradition of Mediterranean countries – internships in Greece for students of technical college of tourism and the hotel industry” will be open to students from the School Complex Number 3 in Wiskitki, with the intention of having 24 people in the group, made up from the II and III classes of the technical college of tourism and the hotel industry.
The students will be divided into 4 groups consisting of 6 people. The choice of Greece and the Hotel Honorata is not coincidental. Greece, with its beautiful beaches, its mountainous landscapes (mount Olympus) and also exceptional cuisine, is one of the most attractive tourist and ecological regions in Europe. The village of Paralia on the Greek Riviera is visited by lovers of the sea, nature and sightseers of monuments (Meteora, Saloniki) from the whole of Europe. However, summer adventures and sightseeing are not the only magnets for attracting guests. In spite of intensive tourism, the local government still manages to care about ecological matters, carrying out countless actions in connection with the proEko project to ensure tourists still enjoy its flawless nature, a philosophy that can be clearly seen in the attitude to tourism. Boarding houses and hotels also play their part in supporting ecological matters.
Local products, which boast widespread production nowadays, are valued throughout the world and include: olives, feta cheese, fruit preserves. These products enrich the tourist experience in Paralia and the Hotel Honorata. From an optimistic point of view it seems that the growing ecological awareness in Poland will enforce changes in the hotel industry which must include valuing the natural environment, and whilst it is true that in Poland we are still far from the standards of Western countries, an increasing number of Polish hotels are expanding their offers with regard to ecological solutions (e.g. ecological cuisine).
Students taking part in this project can gain knowledge and skills which are not available during their regular day to day activities, during which they will have the ability to participate and witness the daily functions of an ecological boarding house and understand the demands and requirements of such an establishment. What is important is that we strengthen their ecological education in three ways: their sphere of knowledge, sphere of practical skills and the sphere of emotional involvement. The aim of these efforts is to shape a system of values which will create a responsible attitude towards an ecological lifestyle.
A partner in the project is the Hotel Honorata Paralia Greece. The realisation of the project is planned to begin in June 2015 and will last for 24 months, finishing in June 2017.
