PROJECT
FINISHED
The project "Eiropas brīvprātīgais Kaņepes Laikmetīgās kultūras centrā" lasted 9 months - from 01.08.2015 till 01.05.2016. Our volunteer was from Czech Republic, and he worked in our association for 4 months. Sending organization was Pilsen-based "Totem" and their main goal is to promote volunteering. They are experienced in working with Erasmus+ programs, and that is the main reason for us choosing them. The Hosting and coordinating organization was an NGO "Kaņepes Laikmetīgās Kultūras centrs", which is part of Kanepes kultūras centrs and their goal is to create Culture and Education program in Kaņepes Kultūras centrs.
This project aimed to introduce volunteer to the cultural activities of the Centre, because our volunteer has begun to found a cultural center in Pilsen and the knowledge he would have acquired during this project, would enable him to implement such a goal. Our volunteer was 25 years old Martin Jakub from Pilsen, he is still continuing his studies in Multimedia Arts and photography, so also one of the final results of the project was intended to be a photo exhibition about his experience during project time. Unfortunately due to the health issues we had to stop the project in the middle, so instead of intended 6 month EVS time, he spent here only 4 months.
The original aim for us was to acquire new ideas and improve our cultural program with a variety of events, also in that way we would be able to educate our society about different cultures, specifically - Czech culture.
In order to implement these goals we had a number of tasks - a volunteer would actively participate in the cultural center life, he would be present at meetings, communicating with artists, planning, coping with unforeseen situations and also enjoying the events. This project was intended as an excellent opportunity to introduce Latvians with Czech culture, so one of the volunteer tasks would have been to organize a Czech cultural evening each month , during which the visitors would have acquainted with both traditional dishes as well as art, language and culture. At first we made weekly schedule for volunteer with jobs like meeting with artists, language school attendance, photographing events and everyday life, and meetings with mentor and Youthpass writing . We designed all volunteer activities based on the Youthpass competencies, thus providing a more complete and more successful learning process.
But as we already wrote before due to the health issues the project stopped before the deadline. Some months before The EVS program Martin had a mental breakdown, when he informed us about this we had a serious talk with representatives from sending organization and with Martin, and he seemed really interested in doing project and enthusiastic to participate in all activities. At first it was like so, he was making photo archive from all social networks, photographing concerts and other cultural events, but all of it came with quite big struggle and after his last project he felt depressed and did not take part in any activities and jobs we offered them. So together with him we made a decision that it would be better for him to return back home.
As mentioned before the end project for Martin was supposed to be a photo exhibition, which would have promoted the European Voluntary Service.
From those few activities that Martin realized while he was here we released information on our social networks, which together have more than 21 000 followers, most of whom are young people, to whom this program is interesting. Also information will be passed on to young people overseas, because 44 % of our followers are not Latvians. So we hope that the information about the EVS program reached it`s target audience.
