The project investigates how, despite their traditional connotations, proverbs can beedited didactically and linguistically as a specific, topical and, for communicationpurposes, important lexical component for the purpose of learning a foreign language.Proverbs are rich in both learning and teaching potential. They express national culturesand can be used as a bridge to impart linguistic and intercultural skills and, so far, toolittle professional use has been made of them in foreign language learning, foreignlanguage teaching and in the development of teaching material. The project is designedto remedy these empirically proven shortcomings by developing contemporarymultimedia learning content for learning proverbs and making it available online.The main product of the project is an Internet learning platform consisting of differentlyweighted components (proverb database, teaching content and proverb bulletin board),which is directed at foreign language learners and foreign language teachers in DE, SI,SK, HU and CZ (level B1 to C2) and developers of teaching and learning material.The proverb database is a collection of linguistic data on 300 selected German proverbsand their equivalents in other languages, presented in a structured and connectedmanner. The didactic content contains collections of proverb-based interactive/adaptivelearning material. The bulletin board, which offers various services, allows all usergroups to be permanently integrated into project activities and encourages discussionand exchange of knowledge and communication and interaction between research andpractice.The project creates permanent added value as a basis for the long-term application ofan upgradable and didactically appropriate corpus-based description of proverbs and asa contribution towards the integration of knowledge and resources in project-basedareas.Target languages: DE, SI, SK, HU and CZ
