The project “Education and the Internet — a pair that changes the world” covers, in addition to Slovakia, the partner countries Russia, Georgia and Ukraine. It will take place in the town of Partizánske, Slovakia and its surroundings from the 1st of May 2016 to the 31st of July 2017. Edukácia@Internet will host 3 volunteers from Russia, Georgia and Ukraine for 12 months.The project will be dedicated to the propagation of the use of ICT in education and to the use of the acquired knowledge in real life. During its existence, E@I created several free educational websites and is working on new ones: it created an electronic dictionary of computer terminology, online courses for Slovak, German, Czech, Esperanto and secured the translation of a Spanish course. The goal of the project is to raise awareness in European countries about the possibilities of free online education (for language as well as other areas) and to connect e-learning with daily life by the means of activities in Partizánske. The target group is quite wide, because any Internet user interested in learning languages can take advantage of E@I’s educational portals. Even though online courses are mostly intended for autodidacts, language schools make use of them very effectively, because it gives them ready online materials for their students.Another potential target group is formed by migrants, whose number in Europe is continually increasing. The access to free language education has become more important in the last years, because more and more people have access to it. E-learning has the advantages of saving financial means and human resources, and online courses are not limited in time or space. In order to make our free courses available to as many interested people as possible, we are striving to translate the language courses to more and more languages. A good example is E@I’s educational portal www.deutsch.info, where, because of the growing number of migrants, Persian and Arabic translations have been added in addition to the already existing Turkish version. The course of medical Czech mluvtecesky.net, primarily intended for foreign students of medicine in Czech universities, is also widely used.The project will have an impact not only on the volunteers themselves, but on the local community (the town of Partizánske and its surroundings) as well. The individual activities aim to include the local inhabitants as much as possible, so they can familiarise themselves with the use of new technologies and become aware of their application in language learning. Online education will be appropriately complemented by the language café, which takes place every months and where participants can talk in their favourite languages “live”.The results of the project will be continually published on the Internet and, depending on the possibilities, in printed media. We will strive to turn some of the activities into regular events organised with the help of the town of Partizánske and the locals.The activities of the project ensure that the volunteers will get in touch with the local inhabitants and get to know new cultures. Every month, they will participate in our language café where they will bring new knowledge. For the project to be successful and to reach its goal, mutual collaboration is necessary from all participants. Thus, they will learn tolerance and become acquainted with different cultures, religions and worldviews.
