The proposed Jean Monnet Chair is expected to contribute to the institutionalization of research, teaching and social out-reach at the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Kemerburgaz University. The JM Chair will undertake to train students from different scientific disciplines, from different parts of Turkey, EU countries and non-EU countries in Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, to host and train qualified EU experts in Turkey covering a wide variety of interests concerning Turkey’s integration process as well as introducing secondary-school pupils to European integration and train them and their teachers in applying European values. It also complements the activities of the Children’s University at Istanbul Kemerburgaz University.Bringing together several different experts on the European Studies from Turkey as well as from abroad, the proposed JM Chair consists of four teaching activities specifically designed for undergraduate students coming from various disciplines (European Integration, Policies of the EU, The EU as an International Actor, and Turkey-EU Relations); a research activity in collaboration with MIPEX Brussels to monitor the Turkey’s performance on migration and integration policies in European and global context; various events such as study trips to the European Institutions in Brussels, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, the Neve Shalom Synagogue, and the Representation of the Turkish Ministry for EU Affairs in Istanbul; five workshops with for IKBU’s Children’s University; a yearly lecture during Orientation Week for International Students, three public seminars and a conference on migration and integration in Turkey; and various deliverables such as a website, an E-Book composed of the contributions within the framework of the JM Chair. The JM Chair will benefit from both conventional and non-conventional dissemination tools such as websites, publications, e-Book, social media (Twitter, Facebook) and press releases.
