EASIT2 - Engineering Analysis and Simulation Innovation Transfer (squared)

The use of engineering analysis and simulation continues to increase across all sectors of industry and it is recognized that in order to face competition from elsewhere in the world, European companies must introduce competitive products and prepare effectively for the challenges that new technologies will bring. There is also evidence that engineering capability is being lost, as some organizations down-size and relocate functions elsewhere in the world. Worries relating to ageing personnel and loss of experience, is also not uncommon in these circumstances. Concerns surrounding the inappropriate use of simulation by untrained staff also persists. Europe clearly requires a sufficient supply of well-qualified engineers if companies are to retain high quality jobs locally. Given that engineering simulation is a key component in bringing new products to the market in shorter time-scales, it is therefore vitally important that engineers are able to make effective use of analysis and simulation tools. The EASIT project was directly aimed at addressing these issues. The main aim of the project was the development of a unique innovative and versatile Competence Framework, focussed on the use of engineering analysis and simulation tools across all sectors of industry. The goal was to transfer, modify and extend the innovative output from the previously completed and highly successful CCOPPS project, which was based on the pressure systems industry sector, to industry in general. The project was managed by a strong EU-wide partnership involving the University of Strathclyde (leader of the CCOPPS project), NAFEMS - a unique non-for-profit company membership organization (a key CCOPPS project member), a leading engineering software developer/training provider and a range of large and small industrial concerns covering 9 key European industry sectors.
