PROJECT
FINISHED
Inspiring our students to be open and communicative European citizens has been the priority for ZOSS for many years now. Therefore language skills have always been valued greatly at our school. As we wish to teach our students at the highest level, we would like to apply for funding of our project called „Bilingual and pro-European - uninhibited communication in international projects”, which assumes that five of our teachers will participate in courses in the United Kingdom. The aim of the project is not only to raise teachers’ qualifications, enable their professional and linguistic development but also to enhance our school’s engagement in international projects. English teachers would like to participate in a two-week methodology course "Methodology revisited, revitalised and re-energised" organised by the Training Centre York Associates (4.07-16.07.2016). Thanks to this opportunity they will be able to learn new English language teaching methods and techniques and diversify their teaching. The visit to the United Kingdom will facilitate the improvement of their language skills and broaden their knowledge of cultural issues. Furthermore, the project will enable them to make contact with other ESL teachers, exchange experience and plan future partnerships. Raising professional qualifications by English teachers is especially important for the organiser because ZOSS in Bytom, where they are employed, offers more English classes a week than other Polish schools and effective and diversified language teaching is the school’s priority. The teachers of Polish and History are interested in the course "English World 33" in Edinburgh organised by Regent School (4.07-16.07.2014), which will, above all, enable them to improve their language skills. It will help them to carry out international projects successfully and make use of materials and tools in English. What is more, they will gain crucial intercultural experience, which they will be able to use in their Polish and History classes. The course they have chosen, apart from language skills, emphasizes global education dealing with topics connected with history, economy, culture, art and social issues important for global community. Since the school has been running many interdisciplinary projects in global education to date, the teachers will be very willing to contribute their newly gained knowledge. The final result of the project will be the enhancement of teaching effectiveness by sharing new information and communication technology tools with the rest of the teachers and the initiation of cooperation on the eTwinning platform. The goal of the organiser is to use various forms of teachers‘ professional development, which eTwinning offers, and encourage students to learn foreign languages by means of direct contact with their peers worldwide.
