Droichead na Daoine - Cultural Integration through sport, music, dance, and traditions
Start date: Mar 18, 2009,

The aim of this youth exchange is to bring together three groups of mixed gendre young people from different European countries and cultures and to afford them the opportunity, through group activity, to discuss and confront varioujs issues revolving around cultural differences, while at the same time learning about each others' countries and cultures. The group will consist of 45 mixed gendre - 15 each from Droichead na Daoine, Sneem, Ireland; Friends for Understanding, Ostfold, Norway (the hosts) and The After School Club, Liepaja, Latvia. The exchange will encourage open discussion on the subjects of social exclusion, cultural diffrences and varying behavioural patterns associated with this, and tolerance of cultural differences. The project will take place in two centres - the first half will be in the urban setting of Moss. For the second half we will stay in a camp on the island of Hvaler. The activities will be held in different size groups in order to cater for the age differences in each of the groups. Energizers, getting to know you games, assessments, and sporting and cultural activities will be held in the large group. We hope to achieve this through icebreaker sessions, sporting and cultural events, intercultural social events and ongoing evaluation of the programme by the young people involved. By virtue of the varied programme which we have put together we hope to ensure that the participants enjoy the entire experience and do not get bored. We have also built in leisure and social events which will achieve learning in a non formal way. There are also periods of "down time" built into the programme which will give the applicants opportunities to rest and to recharge the batteries.A full and comprehensive outline of the programme can be seen n the attachment YOUTH ACTIVITY PROGRAMME, which will lay out the Activity, Method, and Learning which we hope to achieve throughout the exchange. I think that it is important to note that all three participating groups had an input into the contents of the programme.
