Erasmus+ KA1 Project “Improving language, methodological and ICT skills – An Opportunity for a Better Future” is concerned with the mobility of teachers of English and specialised subjects who are also studying English, as well as one teacher who will develop their ICT skills and learn more about the latest technology and their implementation in everyday work.
The project will last from 01.06.2014 to 30.06.2016.
Main project aims:
- improving teachers’ language skills
- improving methodological skills
- improving ICT skills
- increasing the school’s European dimension
- raising qualifications.
Four English teachers will take part in the project in order to improve their teaching repertoire, seven teachers of specialised subjects will increase their ability to communicate and integrate English into their lessons, and one teacher will further develop their ICT skills. In preparation for the language and methodology training courses, the English teachers will familiarise themselves with the literature suggested by the organizers and refresh both their language skills and cultural knowledge of the UK. Subject teachers who may be chosen for the project are learning English on their own and participating in courses organised by our school and will write a placement test to determine their level prior to the training course. They are eager to learn new teaching methods and have new experiences. The teacher who is to attend the ICT training course will work to improve their ICT skills and complete online eTwinning courses beforehand. All teachers participating in the training courses will familiarise themselves with the history, culture, geography and monuments of the UK and Malta, in particular as regards the immediate location of their course. They will prepare PowerPoint or Prezi presentations about Poland, the town and region where they live and their school is situated, as well as the Polish educational system. All participants will be apprised of the Erasmus Plus Programme, the Application Form, the School’s European Development Plan, Europass tools, course information and the course programme. Seven subject teachers would attend language courses organised by ETI – Executive Training Institute on Malta, one selected teacher would complete ICT training at the same institution, while the remaining teachers would attend methodological and language courses at ISP – International study Programmes and Richard Language School in the United Kingdom. During their training, together with teachers from other countries, our attendees will learn and try new teaching methods and techniques and acquire new skills. The course programmes are in compliance with the needs and the development plan of our school, as it is stated in the School’s European Development Plan.
Through their participation in the project the teachers will improve their competences and use their newly acquired skills in the classroom. They will implement the newest methods, techniques, ideas and skills learned in Western European schools, which will raise the quality and effectiveness of language teaching at our school. In future, we plan to form a trial-basis class where some subjects will be taught through CLIL. The teachers will share their acquired knowledge with other teachers, organise training workshops open to teachers from other schools and prepare copies of the gathered materials and lesson plans made as a result of their courses, which will be accessible in the school library. Furthermore, the teachers will work with teachers from other European countries in Erasmus+ KA1, KA2 and participate in international eTwinning projects. These activities will facilitate a greater understanding and tolerance for other cultures, among the teachers and students of our school and, by extension, within our community. Taking part in this project will help raise the schools prestige and increase its European dimension.
