The project “Volunteering for global Slovakia” covers a large number of programme and partner countries. It will take place in Nitra, Slovakia from the 19th of July to the 3rd of August 2016. Edukácia@Internet will be hosting 30 volunteers from XX countries for 14 days. The goal of the project is to offer to young people from various parts of Europe the unique possibility of being involved in the organisation of the 101st World Esperanto Congress, which will contribute to the understanding between nations on the linguistic and cultural levels. It is a prestigious event that is coming to Slovakia for the first time after 100 years, and the President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska, accepted to be a patron of the congress.The volunteers will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the success of the congress as well as its accompanying events: “Interreligious meeting” (25th of July), “International entrepreneurship and business forum” (26th of July) or “Linguistic policy conference” (28th and 29th of July). These accompanying events will also take place under the patronage of important personalities (such as the vice-president of the Slovak government, M. Lajčák) and they are co-organised by important partners (UKF Nitra – Chair of Central European studies, Chair of religious studies, Slovak Esperanto Federation, Parliament of world religions in Slovakia, etc.)Participation in this short-term EVS is also a good preparation for a long-term EVS – both the volunteers and E@I can “probe” each other and find out whether a long-term volunteering with some of the participants could work and would be an asset for the organisation. The volunteers will also be able to try working for a short period and then decide if they would be interested in collaborating with E@I for a long-term EVS.Edukácia@Internet, in addition to organising various training courses, seminars and events, is specialised in the development of multilingual educational websites. It created several successful free language platforms, e.g. the first and biggest multilingual portal to learn Slovak (slovake.eu), websites to learn German (deutsch.info), Czech (mluvtecesky.net) or Esperanto: www.lernu.net – which is the biggest website in the world to learn this language with more than 220,000 users in 35 languages! Thanks to the creation of this website, E@I found many volunteers for this and other projects; thanks to this, it has also been organising in Slovakia every year since 2007 Summer Esperanto Studies (SES), which became the biggest event of this kind in the world, with 220-250 participants from about approximately 25 countries.Thanks to this work, E@I often gets in touch with young people who apply the experience of these projects in their professional lives. It is important for the volunteers to keep developing the acquired knowledge in their daily lives, and helping organising such a big international event is a real challenge for many. Young people can also take advantage of the acquired knowledge on the job market, and they are at the same time motivated to meet people from various nationalities and cultures in a short time at one place. The volunteers create contacts with local inhabitants and congress participants (around 1500-2000 people from approximately 60 countries), they acquired organisational skills and extensive experience with team work and foreign languages. Furthermore, it is also a very convenient and practical form of fight against racism, xenophobia and intolerance: the event is rich in intercultural experiences and is founded on international collaboration. This event will teach collaboration and team spirit, and at the same time it is an opportunity to demonstrate or improve other qualities such as leadership, empathy, flexibility, communicational and organisational abilities, etc. The congress will also have a significant influence on Slovakia, the region as well as the city (which will become more visible both domestically and abroad), on tourism and on the development of international relations.By presenting the results of projects such as EVS, E@I will motivate other local organisations to get involved in the European Voluntary Service.
