This mobility project (Key Action 1 of the Erasmus + programme) is carried out by the association Concordia and more particularly its office in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. It offers a group of 27 people aged from 18 years old from 6 countries (France, Finland, Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary and Greece) to participate in an intercultural training devoted to the topic of stereotypes, cultural diversity, developing tolerance and fostering integration processes. .
This training will take place from 14 to 20 of December 2015 in a youth hostel situated in the city of Annecy, region Rhône-Alpes of France, providing agreeable accomodation, full board and work space for 27 people. The project is the opportunity to share different experiences related to these items, both at individual and national level. “Do you see borders?” project aims to raise awareness of cultural and personal background influencing our identity. The participants of the training are asked to take a deeper look into themselves in order to see how stereotypes and prejudices influence their personal values and the way they see their nationality and cultural background.
The project also focuses on self-expression. The first half of each programme day is dedicated to interactive activities about the topic that will allow to go deeper into the subject. During the second half of the day the participants will be offered a chance to learn different means of self-expression through body language as a different approach to raise awareness about the topic. We will offer participants workshops on theatre, dance, contact improvisation.
At the end of the training the participants will put together a flash mob performance based on the self-expression techniques they have learned within the week and reflecting the discovered during discussions intercultural aspects of the group. At the last day of the training the participants will present the results of the project with their flash mob performance in the center of the city.
"Do you see borders?" training's main objectives include developing participants' capabilities to have an open mind for integration, tolerance and stereotypes free thinking. The project will enable the participants to learn self-expression techniques and methods of non-formal education that can be used for raising awareness about these issues in the future and spread among the young people they work with. This project will allow to strengthen the mutual understanding between people from different cultural and social backgrounds, to allow youngsters to become more open-minded and develop their self-confidence through artistic workshops, to improve self-expression skills both in body language and in verbal speech, to promote the feeling of belonging to the society (at local and European levels), to give the participants the tools for spreading the ideas tackled by the project in the future.
The working methods include interactive activities, role-play workshops, simulation games, case-study workshops, debates, group work. We will apply a participative and learner-centred approach, meaning that each participant will be motivated to contribute to designing the learning process ensuring its best possible quality and efficiency.
After taking part in this project the participants will be equipped with the knowledge and deeper understanding of the topic of stereotypes, borders and intercultural issues in Europe. They obtain practical skills and tools that can be used for raising awareness about these issues in the future and spread among young people they work with. The intercalural aspect of the training course will develop their capabilities to have an open mind for integration, tolerance and stereotypes free thinking.
The sustainability of the project impact will be ensured by continuing development of further initiatives. Dissemination of project results will ensure the possible change of the policies, changing the stereotypes of people and raising awareness about the topics of the training and the possibilities and outcomes of the Erasmus+ programme. It will reenforce the mutual understanding and new ways of cooperation between countries and individuals, will help identifying and promoting the common European values of justice, inclusion and equality. The results and best practices of the project will become a basis for creating more European initiatives and projects aiming at promotion of these values bringing the multiple effect the the project and the programme.
