Dive into CLIL through “Water”

According to the action plan of the European Commission CLIL is one of the major aims of the EU´s language policy. The objective of the project “Dive Into CLIL Through `Water`” is to promote the idea of CLIL. It strives to enhance students´ and teachers´ potential in learning and teaching both content and language. They are introduced to innovative didactic approaches and use them in actual CLIL classrooms. This way students and teachers are made aware of the importance of CLIL for their linguistic, cognitive, social and professional development. In the first meeting teachers become acquainted with or deepen their knowledge of CLIL methodology by developing materials and creating activities on the various aspects of “Water means living”. They then employ their materials and activities in classroom situations. In subsequent meetings students develop their own CLIL material on numerous aspects (historical-cultural, economic, scientific, environmental) of “Water means living”, which they themselves try out on their peers. The findings of the participants are evaluated and compiled in final handouts. The project is based on the results of an earlier COMENIUS project (“CLIL and Renewable Energy Sources”, 2007-09). Previous findings are complemented by the expertise and know-how of the Austrian partner.
