Distance Learning of Banking and Accounting

The project partners will create a series of teaching modules in the field of finance, banking and accountancy able to be delivered as computer-based e-learning courses. Modules will combine practical knowledge and examples from the financial sector with theoretical knowledge. It is expected that the modules will be delivered at degree level to university students and as training material to financial businesses. Project deliverables will comprise a series of e-learning modules in banking, finance and accountancy, specific training modules on delivery of the e-learning courses and a virtual library of e-learning resources. The developed e-learning modules will be supported by traditional teaching methods and will be developed in close co-operation with the financial sector in order to ensure that learning is practice-oriented. In support of the web-based e-learning modules, a range of communication tools will also be developed and introduced, such as discussion forums and chat/audio-video conferences, to facilitate an exchange of ideas and information amongst the users. Use will be made of traditional homework tasks and testing to enable course tutors to assess learners’ understanding of and progress with the course modules. The contents of the virtual library will be collected and disseminated through standardised templates containing detailed information about each course, however, content will also be developed to reflect the particular local context and legislative differences experienced by different end-users. Modules, training and library material will be delivered via the internet, through intranet systems and on CD-Rom. Dissemination will specifically target defined groups of recipients and potential users of the modules, with different tools being used to reach different groups e.g. mail shots for businesses, academic conferences for universities.
