Distance Education for Librarians: Creating an Information-Competent Society (DELCIS)
Making technology user friendly : The DELCIS project provides distance courses in ICT for library staff in Lithuania and Latvia. It allows staff with limited opportunities for traditional forms of continuing education to update their professional skills in a way that is adaptable to the needs of the individual. With its potential for extending into other DE networks, the project brings librarians who may have felt isolated and excluded form professional opportunities into contact with the wider world. It is a step along the route that is leading Europe to be a knowledge-based society with its countries closely linked by all the opportunities afforded by electronic communications. This project started in 2000 and lasted 24 months.
