Discover the European Culture!
Start date: May 11, 2015, End date: Dec 10, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main goal of the exchange is that young people discover cultural similarities and differences by experiencing non-formal and informal learning methods. Our main tools are basically the puppets, the storytelling and national puppet traditions. Every group prepares a puppet show for the exchange, in which young people think over and highlight the stereotypes they have against the countries participating at the exchange, and also include the stereotypes that they think the participating nations have towards their own people. It is also very important to acquire skills like storytelling and listening in the project, where young people will meet the barriers and possibilities through the realization of the cultural and linguistic similarities and differences. The tale helps to strengthen solidarity and tolerance, as it speaks in the language of the childhood. It affects the mind emotionally. Before understanding, knowing, and acquiring something, we should know how to listen to each other. To become an open-minded and receptive person for new and unknown things, it is essential to meet the joy of playing. In the childhood, the freedom of playing still exists and in tales everything can happen. In real life, things can only happen with strong cooperation. We will create this cooperation through the universal language of puppets and tales. With our self-made puppets, we create a brand-new Europe-tale, which focuses on young people’s ideas and express how young people envision increasingly diverse Europe’s future with the hope of peaceful coexistence. The common tales will be presented to the local community. We found out the topic altogether, which corresponds to the objectives of partners and participants as well. The primary concerns are active participation of young people, feasibility, display of Europeanness as a value and that the project is internationally innovative and interesting to the participants and useful to the society as a whole. The aim of the exchange is that through storytelling we learn to be open-minded, express our opinion to other people and listen to each other. Our further aim is to preserve the ability of storytelling and the openness towards new stories, new voices and new cultures. During the exchange we will apply small-group workshops, informal presentations, and non-formal education methods. Most of the participants are young people with fewer opportunities, we plan long-term cooperation with the project partners. Number of days: 8 + 2 travel days Number of countries: Italy, Ukraine, Turkey and Hungary Number of participants: 4 young people + 1 group leader, 4 country: 20 participants (altogether with group leaders) Date of the exchange: 15-24 of August, 2015 Venue of the exchange: Debrecen, Hungary
