Disability In sustainable Agriculture: a New Approach for Training of practitioners
Start date: Nov 1, 2009,

The field of the project is the training for the practitioners who work with mental or psychiatric disabled employed (or available to be employed) in agriculture. Throughout the development of innovation in the training addressed to tutors, trainers and practitioners, this project aims at filling a serious double gap: the lack of technical competencies of the trainers / tutors with psychological or educational background; the lack of educational and psychological competencies of agricultural technicians. To fill this gap is extremely relevant because social farming has positive effects for social inclusion and protection of environment and already offers extraordinary possibilities of training and jobs for large groups of disadvantaged persons. So the specific objective of the project is to develop an integrated and jointed training programme for practitioners in order to make them able to face the complex reality of social farming. Furthermore, our new approach (to train together workers with technical background and practitioners with socio - educational - psychological background) can help different sectors, other than farming, to improve the quality of VET for disabled people. The key pedagogical strategy will be integration of "transversal" competencies (developed at the highest level) and technical competencies belonging to very different fields (farming, farm management, human resources management, as well as mental disabilities care, etc.). The methodology of practitioners' training will be based on interaction and peer learning and, as much as possible, informal (played in the work context). The main expected outputs of the project will be: an initial survey and exchange of good practices; a model of training pathway, with related tools and guidelines for its largest exploitation; pilot training pathways in some countries involved in the partnership; seminars, fairs and festivals in order to disseminate the project results.
