DIFFERENT CULTURES ON THE SAME STAGE
DIFFERENT CULTURES ON THE SAME STAGE
Start date: Sep 1, 2014,
End date: Aug 31, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
Theatre is the face of cultures experienced live on stage by audiences. Watching the play is like seeing culture through a window. We are going to imagine plays performed by our students from four different countries and every play, which is prepared and put on stage during the project meeting, is about the culture of the host country. Since our children are our future, we are responsible for them. We have to provide them with the best possibilities to develop, but also have to make them face social realities, even aspects that they are away from like the culture and the way of life of their peers abroad. For a better future we need to develop awareness for tolerance among children by making them open-minded for people abroad and their cultures.
As the partners of this project we observe that our students need to be supported due to their lack of opportunities for international interaction, participation in multiple events, self-confidence and self-expression. Theatre is our central focus to work with them in order to enhance their spirit of participation, socialization, development of tolerance, teamwork as well as their personality. The students will improve their artistic skills by acting in the theatre plays as well as their literacy and writing skills by writing the scripts. Moreover, they will develop their ICT skills by recording and editing videos as well as their language skills by using English both in writing scripts and performing. The scripts will be written by the students and these plays will be recorded to be sent to other schools in the region, to local authorities, to the Directorate of National Education and will also be shared on EST database.
We would like to draw our students’ attention to the following issues: increasing enthusiasm for theatre, lack of activities for students to show their abilities, lack of knowledge of other countries and their cultures, intolerance to cultural differences, lack of possibilities of traveling and communication between other European countries, lack of knowledge in ICT and computer tools, lack of opportunities to practice English as a foreign language, difficulties in stimulating pupils' creative and artistic skills as they are limited.
