Since 2008, when the European Union Waste Management Framework was amended, an organized effort has been launched in order to spread Construction and Demolition Waste (C&DW) handling and recycling, among other streams. This practice has already been developed in many European countries, however in Greece a shift towards this direction has been made only recently. Having realized this prospect, the organization’s administration has identified the need to prepare its members for this perspective, through providing them with training on vertically organized and operating C&DW Integrated Alternative Management Systems. For this reason and in co-operation with the hosting partner, the organization has put together a training program that fully responds to the educational needs and the empirical knowledge of the participants. The project activities will be implemented in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, with the participation of 20 professionals. The hosting country and area were chosen because of the high level of expertise and the degree of scientific and technological integration in the respective sector. The activities will last 14 days and will be implemented in cooperation with the European Center for Ongoing Training (Europaisches Fortbilidungszentrum) which is to contribute high added value to the project, ensuring the participation of state agencies and companies that are leading the industry. Potential beneficiaries will be executives and personnel managers of SMEs that are registered with the organization. The level of technical competence of potential beneficiaries is considered sufficient for conventional needs, but their relationship with the specifics addressed in the proposed project is almost exclusively theoretical or empirical. Potential beneficiaries share educational needs such as:1) Insufficient knowledge regarding proper inert waste management2) Lack of confidence regarding future employment opportunities and career advancement3) Insufficient knowledge regarding incentives for training on leading and innovative sectors of the economy4) Insufficient knowledge of the dynamic growth in demand for recycled materials .By participating in the activities, participants will:- Gain cognitive infrastructure for smoothly adjusting to new conditions- Understand the inert waste recycle industry in Germany- Make comparisons and incorporate positive elements- Understand the operating status of recycling units - Familiarize with modern recycling technology- Gather critical knowledge in relation to the handling of hazardous waste- Familiarize with products resulting from recycling construction waste- Learn about additional value-added services- Exchange experiences with executives of recycling plants operating in GermanyParticipation is estimated to have indirect effect on participants with regard to:a) maintaining jobs and lowering unemployment risk,b) applying knowledge and skills to benefit their businesses and themselves,c) boost local and regional economy with new business ideas, and d) protecting the environment.
