Saving Europe's cultural heritage from the ravages of disaster : Europe has an immensely rich cultural, architectural and artistic heritage with many artefacts dating back thousands of years. Such treasures are irreplaceable and when they are threatened by natural disasters, we rely on experts to rescue them as best they can. This project looks at the role of new technologies in such emergency operations and seeks to put in place a Europe-wide training scheme to foster transnational co-operation among experts and to use the most innovative technologies to provide this important service. This project started in 2000 and lasted 26 months.
