PROJECT
FINISHED
Lycée Simone Weil wants to offer its students, often coming from underprivileged environments, the opportunity to discover different cultural aspects. To do so, it develops many projects based on three main lines :- Discovering, creating and exchanging through images.- Growing up thanks to culture.- Going towards other people.Following the line “Going towards other people”, our school has turned towards Europe :- Our students take part in international meetings.- We organize school travels in various European countries.- We organize exchanges with European schools.- We develop European mobility. In 2016 / 2017, we would like to develop even more mobility as regards vocational training and teaching so that our students discover new vocational and inter-personal skills, new cultures in order to : - motivate them- acquire a better image of themselves to avoid dropping out of school- be aware of their belonging to European citizenship so as to accept differences more easily. To reach our objectives, a steering committee, composed of our head teacher, our bursar, our head manager, his assistant and 9 colleagues teaching various subjects, has been created. On former Leonardo mobility projects, we developed a network of partners in England and the Czech Republic that we would like to consolidate. We also looked for new partner companies willing to welcome our students in the final year of « Baccalauréat Professionnel » (Vocational Certificate) « Assistance, Social and Health Care » (ASSP) as well as « Selling ».- 4 « Assistance, Social and Health Care » students in primary schools in England- 4 « Assistance, Social and Health Care » students in primary school, old people’s home and organization for young disabled people in the Czech Republic.- 2 « Selling » students in shops in Prague. The trainees are accomodated as following :- In England, by host families.- In the Czech Republic, in a boarding school. To be part of these projects, English language is not the main criteria though it is taken into account ; but good will, motivation, autonomy, both in daily life and professional environment, are expected above all. We favour deserving students, boys or girls indifferently. Our students often come from families with social and / or financial difficulties, living in rural or urban underprivileged areas. Thus, few of them have already travelled out of their native region. Once the students have been chosen at the beginning of the school year, parents are invited to a meeting when they are informed about the goals and the organization of the training period.Students get extra classes concerning culture and language (daily life, professional environment,…) by teachers specialized in languages - English - , vocational subjects, history, arts,… A Czech tutor from another secondary school comes 3 hours a week to our school to prepare the students. At the beginning of the training period, teachers take the students to their workplace and living place to make it easier for them to integrate and use the means of transport on the spot. (They sometimes have to do several kilometers to go to work)At the end of the training period, some teachers go back to the work places in the Czech Republic to assess students, check accommodation facilities in order to give a global review. Our school, students, host companies and schools, host families regularly get in touch through letters, mails, phone calls, videoconferences,… before, during and after the work experience.- before : sending of the training agreement, report booklet in English, CV Europass for students, defining the trainees’profiles, their hosting conditions, activities to be carried out,…- during : trainees’ monitoring.- after : assessing and reviewing of the training period.GOALS- develop our students’ professional skills and acquire new ones through exploring new activities and way of working.- make them adapt more easily, take more initiatives and be more autonomous.- do a training period conform to the rules of the exam.- extend their cultural knowledge.- make them more self-confident.- improve their English.- learning more words connected to daily life and the working world in a foreign language.- make them integrate more easily by living in host families or in a boarding school with young foreigners.- open our students’minds to new ways of life and new cultures.- reinforce their main skills.- make them aware of their belonging to European citizenship.- offer them a better chance to pass the exam.- increase their opportunities to find a job thanks to a better CV.- make our school, as well as our training, more attractive. We hope that this mobility project will allow them to carry on their studies, give them better opportunities to find a job and be responsible European citizens with no prejudice towards other people.
