The vocational high-school « Haute-Follis », located in Laval and labelled « lycée des métiers », takes a keen interest in the professional world of businesses and firms. It has created a well-established link with businesses and firms which need an efficient workforce trained in our high-school. In fact, our students must be ready to work in the European Union and remain open-minded in order to develop flexibility, independence and professional mobility. That’s the reason why Haute-Follis gets involved in European projects.
In 2012, our high-school first started a Leonardo Da Vinci project toward our students who specialise in business administration. Thanks to our partner in Italy, the « Istituto Scarcele », some of our students benefited from European grants and fulfilled a three-week training period in the administrative departments of small and medium-sized companies located in Padua.
We are willing to repeat the experience in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, we will suggest a four-week work-placement in order to meet the needs of our Italian partner-companies.
The machine-finishing sector faces a shortage of qualified employees and is continuously looking for qualified students who are less and less numerous to choose this profession. Our school provides a new vocational A-level specialised in machine finishing, this training allows us to open-up more and more to Europe. Indeed, three of our students are willing to go to Germany for a three-week work-placement.
We hope that this new experience in Germany will work as an incentive for more students to fulfill a work-placement across Europe. These work-placements across Europe will allow them to pursue studies so as to access a higher education level and become skilled workers. It will also let our students strenghten their flexibility, improve their professional and intellectual mobilities and enhance their ability to learn foreign languages. Above all, this experience will make them become aware that they belong to the European Union as European citizens.
For the « Haute-Follis » high-school, these European projects are an integral part of the professional training it provides by promoting vocational sectors. These European projects echoes our will to promote educational and teaching innovations but alos our will to encourage our students to improve their skills in both professional and language fields.
The staff from the Italian and German companies, where our students fulfill a work-placement, will be able to discover and learn new professional practices ; they could also improve the image of their companies collecting information about potential trainings in their own activities or sectors in France.
Thanks to these European projects, some Italian students will have the opportunity to come to France in order to work as a trainee in French firms.
The overall benefits will be the increase of the number of students who will decide to do a work-placement in Europe.
We know that we must strenghten our partnerships, thus, we are planning to create a coordinating position in charge of European projects for our vocational organisation. Thanks to such projects, we will reinforce our links with local companies in Laval in order to adapt our trainings better to the reality of the labour market.
