The creation of wood cluster is intendedto unite wood enterprises of SouthernLithuania (Alytus) and South EastLatvia (Jēkabpils) in order to increasetheir competitiveness.The main project results are creation ofcluster core with 12 wood-processing,furniture and logistical enterprises,preparation of wood cluster model andmethodology, establishment of businesscontacts and raise of qualification of60 enterprises during joint seminars andconsultations.Since Lithuanian and Latvian markets are notlarge, cooperation with each other fostersintroduction of newest technology, spreadof expertise by established relationshipbetween scientific institutions and businesses,provides a possibility to join with other foreignclusters and develop higher value-addedproducts or ensure production in higherquantities.
