Development of manufacturing technology and the supply and production chain for furniture components produced in Karelia and Kainuu
Start date: Dec 31, 2003,
End date: Jun 29, 2005
PROJECT
FINISHED
The goal of the project was to make the manufacturing of furniture components and edge-glued boards more competitive. This was to be achieved through developing forestry, wood sourcing, logistics and refining methodology from the wood industry’s perspective on the border and nearby regions in Kainuu and Karelia. In addition, in order to reach the goal a functional subcontractor network was to be created, the non-productive phases of the supply process were to be eliminated, a new supply chain for forest cutting and purchasing was to be established, raw material needs of companies were to be identified, and a handling system created. The project was intended for developing the sourcing and refining of wood together with the furniture component manufacturing industry in Kainuu. The costs and activities of the projects were, however, too heavily focused on JMC Finance, and thus the network consisting of subcontractor companies received little attention. The Steering Committee decided to abort the project mainly for this reason (meeting minutes 15.6.2005). The project is deemed aborted from 28.2.2005 (managing authority’s decision to abort on 29.3.2006).
