Earthquakes, landslides, forest fires are a permanent threat for Greece, Sicily and Calabria, causing fatalities, material damage at regional, national and trans-national level. Especially earthquakes are the mostly feared by local populations, causing paralysis of local socio-economical activities. Landslides can be predicted and prevented by taking appropriate actions a priori. Earthquakes and forest fires are unpredictable but their physical consequences can be accurately predicted, thus allowing the enactment of effective prevention measures towards the reduction of vulnerability. Consequently, natural risks can be reduced or prevented through effective management. Expected Results: • Web Based GIS tool for free use • Cross-country collaboration • Transfer of know-how between partners • On-line collection of earthquake intensity data • Scientific pilot studies
