Developing the VET in the Hairdressing field to meet market needs

Developing the Vocational Education and Training in the Field of Hairdressing was a project planned to strengten the competence of a hairdressing student. The project acronym BRAID symbolizes six European colleges binding together for organizing inspirational and challenging learning opportunities for students and staff.The project was coordinated by South-Kymenlaakso Vocational College /Mirva Muona in cooperation with Kouvola Region Vocational College and Porvoo Vocational College, all from Finland. Other partners were Virginska Skolan from Sweden, Leeds City College from Britain and IES Borja de Moll from Mallorca, Spain.During the project years 2012-214 five workhops were organized in different countries. The partner responsible for organizing the workshop was responsible for deciding a theme all would work on, creating an inspirational material and delivering it to the other partners two months before the workhop. The learner, together with peers, responsible for creating and practising a long hair up do to a dolly head "Ingrid" based on the inspirational theme. The staff was to support the practising. The learner was responsible for producing a step-by-step -material for presenting her/his idea and techique to the other learners at the workshop. The staff was to support the work at the workhop. The step-by-step material was delivered to all partners for future use in teaching.For the staff the project offered extraordinary chance to build a network among colleagues from the same field, and share expreriences and best practice during the meetings on workshops. The fifth workhop had program only for staff to collect the outcomes of the project.Feedback from the project was collected by the coordinator after three workhops by Wepropol. The feedback reveal both students and staff have experienced high quality learning and the colleges have received remarkable support in bringing international aspect to the teaching of hairdressing.
