Developing make spaces to promote creativity around STEM in schools

Therefore the project aims to improve the basic skills in STEM in pupils of primary and secondary level. To do this, a formal Makerspaces or STEM Labs will be created in Schools. All activities in these areas will enhance pupils in terms of confidence and engagement in STEM, having initiative, developing their creativity, being practical and safe, enabling collaborative work, improve their leadership skills. And as a general result of the project, pupils will increase their motivation to study STEM careers.The aim of the project is to analyse existing activities and create innovative activities that cover all primary and secondary courses. That is, the age ranges of 6 to16 years old.In addition, the innovative and differentiating element is that all activities and educational materials developed in the STEMJAM Project will answers a need or social problem.The project is developed during two years, being its first year of developing activities by teachers and experts, and the second year of implementation with pupils. Also, sharing experiences and creating a database of STEM activities, a Teaching Guide and a MOOC so that other schools can take advantage of work done in this project.Regarding innovation, project aims to develop and demonstrate a methodology that allows introduce horizontally concepts of educational robotics in all subjects, with particular emphasis on the areas of enhancement and reinforcement of STEM concepts, improving the basic skills of pupils in this way.The objective is train pupils able to generate creative responses necessary for the current society The consortium is formed by four schools and a technology centre that provide added value for the development of the project. The project goal is to generate more than 100 innovative STEM activities covering all stages of primary and secondary level. Our main target group are teachers of primary and secondary schools, of course also pupils, but not only, also school Principals, Policymakers, toy libraries, young monitors from leisure areas and other stakeholders in general interested in the project topicsAlso a non-formal Makerspace with toys and technology will be developed as a new concept we can call STEM Toy Labs that will be open to other stakeholders the project results.
