Deutsch-Polnische Mobilitätspartnerschaft im Bereich der Gastronomie und Hotellerie
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This is a school partnership between the “Berufliche Schule Elmshorn” and “Zespol Szkol Nowy Dwor Gdanski” in the area of the hotel and catering business. It aims at the synergetic impact of the cooperation of the Polish and German cuisine. This is based on the linking of traditional and new technologies and considers customary marketing instruments aiming at tourism as well. Fourteen vocational students from classes for the hotel and catering business are taking part in this school exchange. Within two years two “mobilities” are planned, but only one has been undertaken. The participants will be accompanied by drei teachers( Two teachers at the same time) while visiting the other country. The apprentices are working in prestigious hotels and will be looked after by the vocational partner school of the other country. During both visits Polish and German apprentices will mutually prepare and serve a commonly developed menu consisting of several courses for guests of honor in a festive atmosphere. The project was originally initiated by Mr Julius Hinz, a German hotel owner, who was born in the former Tiegenhof, which is now called Nowy Dwor Gdanski. The Berufliche Schule Elmshorn has sponsored a complete kitchen equipment as well as an entire restaurant for training purposes for the vocational school in Nowy Dwor Gdanski. This enterprise was supported by the “Förderverein der Beruflichen Schule Elmshorn” (an association that promotes various school activities) and the DEHOGA (association of hotel and catering companies). The kitchen and restaurant equipment was then installed by the vocational school in Nowy Dwor. Meanwhile the vocational training at the school in Nowy Dwor Gdanski has become very attractive for young people from the whole region. This is especially due to the fact that the theoretical lessons are now methodically enriched through the implementation of “Praktische Fachkunde”: practical lessons in the school´s new kitchen and restaurant. As now both vocational schools have got their own professionally equipped training kitchen and restaurant, the planned festive menus can be prepared and served in these specialized rooms. The two schools have met several times for the organization of this school exchange. Both partner schools have agreed that firstly the apprentices from Elmshorn are travelling to Poland in order to work and learn there. Subsequently, students from Nowy Dwor Gdanski are visiting Elmshorn in December. The period of time for this visit was especially desired by the Polish partners, because then the Polish students can experience the professional organization of Christmas celebrations (for staff of companies, authorities and the like) in the companies of the hotel and catering business. In Poland Christmas is only celebrated privately with members of the family. A long-term benefit of this exchange will surely be the mutual enrichment of the German and Polish cuisine. Especially for the common development and performance of the menu the following aspect should be considered in particular: Young Europeans, working side by side, living together in freedom and peace – an aspect of utmost importance, especially when regarding the common history of both countries.
