“Design 4 Real” is a youth exchange project intended for young people of 19-29 years of age, that have theoretical and practical experience in the field of design. The project will be held in September of 2016 in one of the most beautiful places of Lithuania – Nida, where 24 participants together with leaders from four partner organisations and three countries – Italy, Poland and Lithuania will create and collaborate in an international team to learn from each other and realize the main goals of the project. One of the most important goals for the organizers of “Design 4 Real” youth exchange project is to develop competitive young designers and reduce youth unemployment. Similar tendencies are clearly visible in all the European countries – clients are searching for eminent artists and highly experienced designers while innovative works and ideas of young designers are sold very poorly. For these reasons during the project young artists will have an opportunity to directly collaborate and communicate with clients and representatives of the industrial companies, make a quick, intense and concentrated research to analyse the main points of the given task in a very time-efficient manner and then, finally, make design proposals and properly present the project to the audience. Direct designer and industry representative (client) communication is thought to be one of the main factors to improve employment, eliminate barriers between young creator and future clients and present the full potential of young design specialists. The main topic of the youth exchange project is migration. Participants of the project suggest omitting the political discourse and, instead, analyse the surrounding background and the phenomenon of “migration” in a very broad context. During the project, participants will try to see migration at a different angle starting from aspects of nature to migration of art, symbol and even thought in historical, social and cultural interpretations. Our environment is filled with a lot of migrating, intercultural and universal symbols that will be the target of deep analysis and further creative process.Institutions and organizations working with youth in the field of design have gathered to organize and take part in this project. The idea of this youth exchange was stimulated by a belief that academic activity alone is not enough for the development of young creators. Informal activities are of big importance and are crucial for acquiring knowledge of new creative methods, learning from each other and implementing new skills in an ever changing environment. The name of this youth exchange represents the idea of developing real projects that will be realized and presented to the society.During the project, participants will form three international teams that will solve proposed creative tasks. All of the project participants are connected with creative activities but have various skills, competences and varying degree of experience in their professional and social life. The project gives young designers an opportunity to directly interact with client companies, so one of the main tasks for participants and tutors is to creatively reveal a theme of migration in a partner company projects.Neringa – is a unique place in the Lithuanian part of the Curonian spit. Here you can find almost any kind of migration in action, starting from the travelling dunes to annual movement of birds and different kind of Soviet era inclusions in the towns of Neringa. Migration as a search for a better and safer living sometimes not considering all the negative factors and, also, as a movement of various cultural manifestations that are constantly forming our modern society, will be the dominant aspects of this project.A lot of artists are natural introverts, so open communication and active teamwork can be a real challenge. During the project, participants will communicate on a broad variety of topics and in different situations, including clearing out the aspects of creative project in professional terms, discussing its social, economic and cultural effects and searching for the best means of expression. Another part of communication will be informal, the engaged teams will be mixed together so everyone could have an opportunity to communicate with members of the other teams. During the out coming trips spontaneous “Erasmus+” programme presentations to the local inhabitants will be made. The exceptional natural environment, waters of the Baltic Sea, Curonian bay and the abundance of dunes are perfect factors to aid the activity and vitalize the research process. Non-formal communication will be also developed during activities like cooking. Participants from different countries are chosen intentionally to promote communication and creativity. Culinary activities will also be a scene of search for “migrating” dishes and products, promoting to picture the world as a collection of common symbols, signs and interests.
