Face2Face is a project of contemporary art tours that encourages tourists and local people to access high quality cultural activity via environmentally sustainable bike, boat, train, bus and walking routes. The aim is to encourage a wide variety of audiences, including artists and art professionals, to explore either side of the Channel. Driven by cultural organisations but working alongside regional tourism agencies, Face2Face will examine the positive economic and environmental effects of cultural tourism. The partners all want to strengthen cultural cooperation in the cross-border area, and give greater visibility to public education and outreach programmes on either side of the channel.Over three years, Face2Face will offer tourists and local people a series of unique experiences and encounters, highlighting heritage within the area which is not always traditional or well-known. The project also supports a cultural exchange programme for arts professionals and practitioners which includes debates, lectures, seminars and exchange visits relating to culture, the public and international partnerships. Achievements: What were the key results of the project? In total, the partners organised 21 free art tours, 58 exhibitions, 6 performancies, 53 scrennings, 66 meetings with artists, 19 residencies, 3 workshops between students and artists, 1 symposium about the commission for public space and 3 “Cross Channel Laboratory” where art and touristy professionals of the both side of the channel could exchange about the links between art and tourism.
