The Schoolgarden - learning by gardening
The agricultural vocational School Alt-Grottenhof has reactivated their productive schoolgarden, where they produce vegetable, herbs, fruits and flowers for their own need in food processing and for direct marketing in the school's farmshop, where students get a practical training in selling agricutlural products.
The schoolgarden is there for education but also presentation. Unfortunately the gardens have not allways been good looking in the past time, what of course is not good for bringing people nearer to horticulture. The gardens should be more attractive, both in looks and learning aspects.
The aim in participating at 'The art of Gardening' at Great Dixter was to benefit from the long term experience of this internationally well known institution and to be able to learn from their example of best practice, or adapt learning contents to our own needs and to have an international exchange.
Therefore teachers were prepared and sent to the above mentioned symposia, where experts from all over the world will take part.
The exchage with participants from different European countries will bring interesting contacts. The Organisation of Great Dixter as a Charitable Trust including sponsoring and fund raising could be an example for similar educational institutions in Austria.
