Since 1999 we have been conducting the project in London in cooperation with the „“European College of Business and Management” (ECBM). We have established the project for the apprentices of Investment Fund Administration and we have been extending it to the benefit of our apprentices in Banking. We are currently sending 40 students to London.The new title of the project “The financial center of London and the Brexit” clearly describes our aim that future bank employees should challenge and better understand UK’s relationship with Europe. They should discuss the consequences of Britain remaining member of the EU or Britain leaving the EU. Furthermore, they should be able to act responsibly and confidently at international financial places. During their stay in London the students are supposed to discover the banking centre London with its severe problems as well as learn about British economy and politics. Visiting the docklands, the Bank of England and the Stock Exchange, for example, our students will get a deeper insight into London.The target group of our project are apprentices of Investment Fund Administration and apprentices in Banking who started their traineeship one year ago. They have already passed their intermediate examination and have received theoretical training in form of block teaching in our vocational school. Their employers are mainly banks and investment fund companies in Frankfurt.In London students mainly spend their time in college and get to know the city as a financial centre. The college works out a training scheme tailored to needs of our students and is responsible for teaching the subjects. The lessons are held by native speakers. Excursions are also a part of the training programme. At the end of the stay the students have to pass several exams to receive three certificates:- Certificate of the ECBM - Certificate of the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce- Kaufmann/Kauffrau International (AHK)Early planning is very important for us: in September 2016 the college, the flights and the hotel rooms have to be reserved. When booking the flight we also apply for a travel cancellation insurance which covers the students’ own contribution of 650 euros. For many years now we have been guests at the Lancaster Hall Hotel in London and we have been working with the college and our travel agency. It’s our aim that students improve their professional, social, intercultural and linguistic skills. The following vocational and social competences should be expanded: the participants should discover the banking centre London and they should follow the college lessons about economic, political and cultural topics held in English. Furthermore they have to live and work with students of other institutions in an unknown surrounding. This requires a high level of social responsibility. The participants will get to know a foreign culture, because London itself is a melting pot of cultures. Going to the college by tube or going to museums are also part of the students’ intercultural experiences in a very open and tolerant society. In discussions with their professors they will automatically think about the different strategies that the two countries have to solve their problems. Since the dominant language in the financial sector is English the students will gain professional as well as linguistic profit.
