PROJECT
FINISHED
Two of the main tenets of our school's mission are early English and internationalisation. We take every measure possible to work toward helping our school team develop compentences and skills to be equipped to carry forth these objectives. Nearly all of our teachers have been taken part in the Early English Teacher Training Programme, and most would like to hone their skills even further and continue their professional development for the benefit of themselves and their students.
This project will enable a core group of 13 team members to be immersed in a week long cultural and educational exchange where they'll obtain new insight, first hand experience with internationalisation, hands on activities to be implemented in their classrooms, and through immersion in a completely English environment, improve their own level and confidence in communicating in English.
Methodology to be used in this course is a combination of theory, which is the basis for good practice, principles behind content based learning, and classroom didactics with a focus on age -appropriate lesson ideas geared toward achieving specific communication goals. The method for improving English speaking skills is immersion in a completely English environment the whole week, in and outside of the classroom, as teachers will be staying with host families.
Results of the course will be refreshed and inspired teachers who will be eager to apply their new skills and activities in the classroom. We will then pair each of the participating teachers with a teacher who did not attend the course, so they can share their newly acquired skills, therefore more teachers and more children will benefit from the project. This support of staff will lead to fulfilling our vision of having a confident, competent and internationally minded school team who can comfortably teach 15% (or 30%) of their lessons in English. It is our belief that the positive attitudes and advanced abilities of our teachers will help develop students with a strong English foundation, who at the end of their primary school time are able to communicate confidently and effortlessly in English, which will open many doors for their future in Holland, throughout Europe and the rest of the world.
