De La Sagra a Europa (From La Sagra to Europe) - EVS Project La Sagra in Castilla La Mancha – a part of Europe becoming closer everyday – is where European volunteers will live and implement this project. They will live and share experiences with the local youngsters. Beforehand the place doesn't seem like a very promising land, but with the help of European values and programmes we can make it a better environment. It is exactly here where fostering youth participation is needed. We face the same challenge as other European pioneers and social activists did: make the place attractive for its people and start fighting for our values. Our objective: have a great time, enjoy thousands of adventures and, along the way, transform ourselves and our county. Our previous experiences with EVS projects in the area have proven that the presence of European youngsters acts like key part for the opening of eyes towards the local and international possibilities which can be implemented in La Sagra. Only with their presence they are able to break this vicious cycle and the process allows local youngster to begin to liberate themselves of the sensation of “no-present, no-future”. At the same time, the EVS volunteers will experience their own transformative and identity-changing process by being in contact with such difficult, challenging but also passionate tasks and situations. The European volunteers involved in this Long Term EVS Project, as well as their predecessors in the past EVS projects “Somewhere in La Sagra…” and “Quijotes in La Sagra”, will be facing challenges as many European citizens do these days. Although the battle is not being fought with equal resources and forces, the important part is that it has started for some years, it is happening now and that it gives hope to those who will continue with it, in the spirit of European advancement. The youngsters of La Sagra need some inspiration and a European model to build their life considering their local environment and the international possibilities they have. Like the European Union, they need to be really united in their diversity. The Long Term EVS project “From La Sagra to Europe” will take place in the small towns of Borox and Esquivias , close to where the hosting organization, Proyecto Kieu, has its headquarters. The volunteers will join the Youth and Social Services active in these places and try will bring a new perspective and contribution to different community, social and cultural activities with the aim to help youngsters to be involved in social participation. With their example of what it is like to be European Volunteers they will also inspire local youngsters to find out more about international and European options for themselves. They will learn how, even though they live in a small town and sometimes feel isolated from the international aspects of today’s world, they can access plenty of resources and experience things from new perspectives at an European level.
