Dante - Development and new teaching experiences
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project is the result of the development plan for the Adult Education Institution Dante. Besides teaching foreign languages, which is currently our basic activity, our long term plan is to develop Dante into a lifelong learning and professional development centre, whose target users would not just be the people involved in adult education and language teaching, but also be part of the wider community. The project activities were directly connected to the goal of widening the range of activities in the next period and represent a preparatory phase in which the level of professional competences of the employees was raised and in which they were being prepared for carrying out new educational programmes and courses for the general public and certain target groups in particular. The participants of the activities were continually developing their key competences (especially the competence learn how to learn, entrepreneurial competence, cultural, interpersonal and civic competence, and indirectly the competence to communicate in a foreign language) by taking part in the training programmes. After taking part in the activities they were preparing, developing and carrying out non-formal education programmes which develop the gained competences. They were also monitoring, evaluating and guiding their own work and the work of their students as well as making business decisions, designing and implementing marketing activities for promoting their workshops and maintaining successful public relations, which was possible because of the workshops they were taking part in and holding during this project. After the completion of the whole project and after the completion of the dissemination activities during which the employees as participants of different training programs, and after the workshop where our employees could share their knowledge with their colleagues, they now expectedly can: 1. estimate educational needs of the market 2. prepare and develop programmes aimed at maximising different personal and professional potentials 3. make learning easier and lead formal and non-formal educational processes 4. monitor and evaluate work of students and employees 5. counsel and guide potential participants of professional trainings at the Adult Education Institution – Dante 6. make business and financial decisions in relation to adult education within their competences 7. manage human recourses (choose leaders of programmes, form working groups, lead groups, plan professional trainings, cooperate with other institutions) 8. design and implement marketing activities and maintain public relations 9. give the students and employees adequate administrative support 10. give the students and employees adequate IT support 11. carry out activities that connect various areas (for example foreign languages and training of life skills, foreign languages and IT skills, marketing and sustainable development, interpersonal functioning and communication skills) 12. make aware of the importance of working in teams 13. list stages of the learning process The project activities lasted for two years. Five employees of The Adult Education Institution – Dante participated in each project activity, in total there were seven employees who participated in the activities. The project activities included professional trainings in selected institutions from Denmark and Estonia and a visitation and exchange of experience in a specialised institution in Germany, as well as constructive communication and consulting with all the three institutions. They also included evaluation, reflection and implementation of new knowledge and skills in the work of The Adult Education Institution – Dante. An important indicator of the sustainability of the project results is the fact that during its implementation, in addition to the above mentioned workshops held at the Adult Education Institution – Dante, the principal of the institution and participant of the professional trainings of the project held theme workshops at the IV. International Andragogical Symposium and at other consultation about andragogy and adult education that took place between February and June 2016. As expected, the employees of the institution, who were involved in the project, have developed and acquired knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant for the development and improvement of the competences learn how to learn, cultural expression, interpersonal, civic and entrepreneurial competence. They have become more competent teachers and leaders of professional trainings and general educational programmes for citizens. In addition to the professional development of the employees of the institution, the project has affected the development of some of the core competences of citizens from the local and regional community.
