The EVS project „Da steh´n wir drauf“ [That’s where we stand] is organized by the youth work of the evangelic church in the deanery of Reutlingen, south Germany. Within ten month time; from October 2014 to July 2015 the opportunity is given for the volunteer to engage in various projects and weekly group activities. As an equal partner the volunteer takes part in decisions regarding her service, focusing on her strengths, interests and aims of learning.
Being aware of the influence migration has on today’s culture; ejr together with its active members is eager to let a new perspective grow that is focusing on these cultural changes as a challenge as well as an opportunity for the community as a whole. Here the EVS volunteer plays a major role, that will help others – beyond learning language and raising cultural awareness - within ejr to expand their European horizon through the dialogue with people of different origin and religion. Such a dialogue –we hope – will increase each and everyone’s willingness to live together in a supporting and respectful way.
Further, the project is designed to make the European Volunteer Service a bit more known in the Reutlingen are, as well as to encourage people to reflect their own intercultural and interreligious skills.
