Cultures of remembering
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Aug 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Cultures of Remembering" was a training for 29 multipliers from Germany, Israel, Poland and Ukraine. By using the example of the history of the European Jews, participants made an expedition to Lower Silesia (Krzyzowa, PL) in order to investigate different strategies of accounting for the past and ways of German, Polish, Ukrainian and Israeli remembering on National Socialism and Communism. The participants got to know new approaches to non-formal education with the focus on Jewish history in Poland. They worked on methods that foster an exchange of European and Israeli cultures of remebering. Furhtermore anti-Semitism played an essential role within the training and strategies of preventing it towards rising problems in society in form of youth initiatives, actions and pedagogical work. The training threw light on divestment of national focused interpretation of history and discussed forms of transnational cultures of remembering. The main objective of the project was the development of concepts of active remembering and accounting for Jewish history for international youth meetings. During the training youth workers developed methods based on non-formal education in the field of European cultures of remembering with a focus on Jewish history, taking into consideration innovative and learner concentrated pedagogical approaches. Youth workers use these methods and carry on working with them in their own field of work with young people in their local communities. Those new methods were documented and constantly updated on a project blog. Additionally it served to exchange experiences and ideas among the participants.
