Point of departure of the project is an initiative of the Academia Baltica, Lübeck, to develop and document the common (or different) understanding of the cultural identity of the Baltic Sea area. The title of the project is ”CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES - on the way to a Baltic Sea Cultural Identity”. The Project objective is to facilitate European Cultural Cooperation through strengthening commons and overcoming barriers by the development of a platform for the exchange of scientists and citizens on the cultural commonalities of the region and its controversial national perspectives Main Activities of the project are:- to map and merge strengths and competences from cultural and historical actors around the Baltic Sea to built up a sustainable network of actors.- to analyze the ability of methodologies and the new information technology possibilities for the future communication and documentation in the Baltic Sea history project.- to carry out a pilot to evaluate the appropriate methodologies and technologies in the field of “Building culture”.The project is the first effort to create a collective view on history and culture in a European region. Academic views and individual perceptions and experiences meet in innovative ways. In the framework of an intercultural dialogue common regional history, culture and identity are (de)-constructed. With the help of the new documentation technologies (like Wikis, Blogs etc.), the CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES project goes beyond the limits between traditional methods (like books) and new approaches. The financial budget of the project is 268.020 Euro. Coordinator of the project is the Academia Baltica, Lübeck, Germany. The Project starts at the 1st of July 2012, and has a duration of 24 months until the 30th of June 2014. Co-organizers are the Tallinn City Archives, Estonia; the Aue Stiftung, Helsinki , Finland; and the University of Szczecin, Poland. Nine associated partner support the project.
