This European project, entitled CASE4I "Cultural Activities Socially Engaged for improving the social and professional Integration", proposes an improvement of European practices through the exchange of experience, transfer of existing tools in different countries, multidisciplinary reflexion and "European" co-construction of new, inovative tools.
The project involves 5 European organizations from 4 countries (France, Croatia, Italy and Spain) and it was built with a view to the exchange of experience and good practice between structures that exploit the cultural media as a lever for the education and integration of young persons, and in particular for groups in difficulty (early school dropouts, migrants, young people in prison, people in precarious situations ...). Its' main aim is :
- the exploration, improvement and dissemination of existing pedagogical approaches;
- the construction of new, innovative tools : educational tools and methodology to evaluate and capitalize achievements through cultural activities (knowledge acquisition, access to the key competences and/or development of these competences).
The use of cultural support to optimize and boost the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills has a utility that is now generally recognized. This utility is fully revealed in actions that are addressed to youngsters, especially to young persons that are, for various reasons, experiencing educational, social and economic insecurity.
Drawing on a wide range of approaches and various experiences of all partners, the project aims, in a first phase, to ensure the transmission/dissemination of existing methods and tools in the 4 partner countries in order to enable them to :
- improve practices of each participant by the cross fertilisation of ideas and practices from the partners;
- co-construct an educational tool easily adapted to any type of public and different objectives (access to basic knowlegde, access to mobility, access to active citizeship, developpement of transversal competences).
In a second phase, the project aims to provide a common reflection around existing modalities permitting beneficiaries to capitalize and formalize skills, knowledge and experience achievements after cultural activity. The partners want to achieve, throug this reflexion, criteria and tools for the formalization and capitalization of knowledge (basic and transversal competences, basic knowledge and experience) that promote the valorization of public with a low level of qualification. This second phase will also include a shared reflexion around the tools and methods for evaluating socially engaged cultural practices . Indeed, actions based on cultural support have a rich educational potential. They allow both the acquisition of basic skills and the development of transversal skills. This richness complicates the assessment of the achievements and impact on beneficiaries. Both actions are intended to lead to the preparation of a booklet - study guide to accompany the various actors in the evaluation of their actions and to enable them to accompany in turn their beneficiaries in the capitalization of acquired experiences from cultural activities.
This project will have two results as intellectual production that have a multiple expected impact, for all those involved in cultural activities socially engaged (trainers, artists, volunteers, policy makers and designer of integration and integration policies) : 1/ a new and innovative "Fresh book"; 2/ a booklet to accompany the evaluation and capitalization of knowledge and key skills. These tools will be published and widely disseminated in open source.
Thus conceived, the project falls within the priorities set by the European policies in the field of youth education and with the aims defined for strategic partnerships:
- Enhancing the quality and relevance of the learning offer in education, training and youth work by developing new and innovative approaches andsupporting the dissemination of best practices;
- Fostering the provision and the assessment of key-competences, including basic skills and transversal skills particularly entrepreneurship, languages and digital skills;
- Promoting take-up of innovative practices in education, training and youth by supporting collaborative learning and critical thinking and other innovative learning methods;
- Fostering equity and inclusion in education, training and youth, to enable quality learning for all as well as to prevent drop-out and promote participation of disadvantaged youngsters in society.
The project also contributes to the Europe 2020 objectives:
- By targeting people in precarious youth, it participates in the fight against poverty;
- Having as target an audience of young adults failing at school, it participates in the effort to reduce school drop out;
- As young beneficiaries do not master basic key skills, it aims to contribute to facilitating their social and professional integration.
