Crossroads of European Literature
Start date: May 1, 2012,
The project Crossroads of European Literature is aimed at stimulating production of transnational literary works either by presenting foreign literature by means of translation and live literary readings, or by enabling authors to write in foreign environment thus bringing the latter and their own background and experience into creative dialogue. This issues will be addressed at 3 renowned literary festivals from different parts of Europe that have a long tradition of exchanging ideas, literary works and artists on a European and global level: Vilenica Festival, Days and Nights of Literature and Cúirt Festival. A number of literary readings, gala events, authors' exchange, discussions, meetings between cultural mediators and authors , and workshops will be organized.A series of workshops for professionals and residencies for authors will be organized at partners' festivals. Workshops will bring together European publishers, translators, critics and authors and make lively presentations and exchange of texts. Literary critics will present and argue their selection of works to be translated in foreign languages. Festivals will provide sample translations and a possibility for literary professionals to meet the authors. Publishers will be given information about possible ways of co-financing from different sources, national and international. Following the former positive experience we are positive that such workshops will stimulate numerous translation projects. Web site readmelive.com with its social network will enable literary professionals to get in contact with each other and connect which will make our project accessible to widest audience possible. Partner festivals will present themselves at each other's events by means of short residencies for authors. Writers will be invited to come and write in foreign environment and thus bring foreign influence in their literature. In this way we will directly stimulate a creation of trans-national works of art.
