The project aims to encourage sustainable management and protection of the Middle Danube region through cross-border cooperation of project partners in raising environmental awareness and knowledge of the local population. The project will help develop a strong regional identity in local population as well as environmental responsibility, pride of their natural heritage and knowledge about sustainable management by creating new and innovative educational programs that will cover the entire cross-border area of the Danube and deal with the area's shared problems. As part of the project new educational workshops will be designed to educate local population, and project activities will include the production of a documentary film, which will show HU-HR Danube region as a unique natural area and be broadcasted to local people, tourists and students, who are the direct target group of the project. Other promotion materials will be used for awareness-raising activities, including flyers, media announcements, study tours for teachers and a web site for participation in educational programs. Achievements: Three environmental organisations came together to assess the tourism potential and to develop an overall eco-educational programme for the border area. To support the planned educational programme, infrastructure was enhanced in the White Stork Museum in Kölked, Hungary and at the Zlatna Greda Ecocentre on the Croatian side. Also, several bilingual teaching materials were developed. Next to the teaching models of the Danube and next to workbooks intended for the smallest children, an educational video about the Danube was made, showing the practical implications of regulating the river.
