Cross-country skiing - a chance for tourism development in Lithuania and Poland cross-border area
Start date: Aug 31, 2013, End date: May 30, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Cross-country skiing - a chance for tourism development in Lithuania and Poland cross-border area" is implemented in three municipalities, two in Poland (Augustów and Gołdap) and one in Lithuania (Druskininkai). All the municipalities covered with the project are characterized with similar properties. They are situated in the areas attractive for their wildlife, far from bigger cities. Thanks to that, tourism is one of the major branches of economy within the project area. The tourist attendance is most significant during summer holidays. The project is an answer to the problems identified in its area - the excessively short tourist season. The problem of seasonality is acutely felt by local tourist service sector companies, being the foundation of the region economy and the source of income for a large part of its inhabitants. The overall objective of the venture is to increase the attractiveness and competitive advantage of the cross-border area between Poland and Lithuania by improving and enriching the tourist offer. Expected Results: Project activities including organization of the ski equipment rentals, organization of the cross-country ski competition tour and other training and promotion activities. Thanks to the project implementation, the tourist season will be extended to winter. This will ensure additional money, obtained from purchase of accommodation, catering and other services.
