CREATIVITY FOR EMPOWERMENT - EVS GHANA 2009

"Creativity for Empowerment - EVS Ghana 2009" will promote inclusion of disadvantaged youth through arts and creativity and strengthen global solidarity through a creative intercultural dialogue. Zavod Voluntariat and its partners want to strengthen European cooperation and long-term engagement in Africa as well as promote and enhance global education activities in Europe.Together with 20 Ghanian volunteers, 12 European volunteers from Slovenia, Germany, Wales and Czech Republic will organize creative workshops for 216 children and youth from deprived communities. Arts and creativity are used as tool to empower the children and youth in the sense of discovering and expressing their potentials and hidden talents. The workshops are held in Accra, Ghana from 7th October - 7th November 2009 and will focus on areas such as drama, dancing, poetry, painting, drawing, acrobatics and singing. The volunteers will also assist with swimming courses and help to facilitate workshops on global issues such as HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy as well as on child labour and slavery. These are main problems children and youth living in these communities face every day.The EVS project will give young African and European volunteers the possibility to work together and exchange and develop new ideas for diverse culture and creativity in a global world. Both the volunteers and children will be empowered to develop their skills and self-esteem to be an active member of society and get engaged in future activities aiming at global understanding.
