PROJECT
FINISHED
This project connects 3European EVS organisations. WE want to send volunteers to 2 organisations with whom KERIC has previously cooperated within EVS. By cooperating with partner organisations whom we know, we are able to provide a good base for high-quality and successful EVS projects involving mainly youth with fewer opportunities.
The objective of the project is to enable young people aged 18 to 30 to do EVS abroad for 21 days and 11 months with the aim to gain intercultural experience, raise European awareness and fight against prejudice against foreigners.
The project will contribute to personal and proffessional development of the volunteers with the aim to find a job in the future as well as help the people from local communities to become more open and tolerant towards foreigners, or people different from them.
The activities of the volunteers vary depending on the host organisation. Generally, the volunteers will support the local communinty, work with children and youth - organise workshops, awareness activities, cultural and sport clubs, information and presentation activities about EVS.
The methods of work follow the principles of non-formal education.
KERIC, Slovakia sent 1 volunteer to KASA Armenia (12 months)
The project had several dimensions, that were already being implemented and where the hosting organisation placed the volunteer.
The volunteer assisted in daily organizational tasks of center’s staff and local volunteers, including:
- creative, artistic, administrative and technical support
- participation in weekly team meetings to generate ideas and strategies about the overall activities
- help in improving the overall quality of youth activities of the Centre and making them more attractive to young people
- help in organising various activities in the framework of “Young Citizens” project
- contributing to partnership building with different organisations by participating in networking activities with the staff members of the foundation
- contributing to the development of intercultural activities in the Centres of the Foundation (such as country presentation days and intercultural evenings)
- contributing to the visibility and promotion of the activities by creating and updating the project’s blog.
The volunteer implemented these activities:
• different cultural activities
• debates on issues at youth’s attention
• intercultural activities (such as country presentation days and intercultural evenings, meeting with young foreigners living or visiting Armenia)
• thematic movie screenings followed by group discussions
• English language club facilitation
• promotional measures to represent the Foundation in different local events
• creation of banners, posters promoting different cultural and training activities of the Foundation.
Here is a brief description of the project called “Young Citizens of Armenia”, where the volunteer acted as an assistant.
The project assembles young people in Yerevan and Gyumri in youth clubs. The project directly works with selected club animators by: Helping them develop and run weekly thematic youth clubs discussing social, political and economic issues, led autonomously through an animator council; Offering them intensive training courses on how to best run youth clubs as well as topics such as 'learning-how-to-learn' and self-directed learning; offering mentoring by the project team both on an individual level in order to address personal issues that come up during the course of the project as well as providing expert information on the issues discussed in the youth clubs; providing an E-learning platform where the animators can access useful information and discuss with one another on the forum; providing resources and encouragement for the animators to develop their own youth initiatives; organizing public events with prominent thinkers (national and international) to act as role models for the animators and the general public.
A. Thematic months
The academic year was divided into different thematic months (let's say "Month of Art", "Month of Cultural Tolerance", "Month of Religion", etc.). During these months sets of different thematic activities (action days, movie screenings, round tables) were organized for and by young people. The volunteers first got to know and got a support to research on those topics, then helped in designing the appropriate activties through which the topic was presented in the most interetesing and appealing way to young people in Yerevan and Gumri.
B. Youth Clubs
The volunteer was mainly involved in English language club. There were 11 different Clubs where young people gather to socialize and improve their speaking skills in English. Those clubs were run by young people and they were the ones who decided on their monthly topics to be discussed as well as activities to be made. The volunteer largely helped in facilitating these clubs and brought in their intercultural dimension. These clubs were very pop
