Creative tools for Youth workers - TC on Visual Thinking
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Dec 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Creative tools for Youth Workers" was a 6 (+2 travel) days training course which was organized on 01-08 of September 2015 in Dilijan (Armenia). The 24 participants (youth workers, trainers, educators, young professionals working with youngsters with fewer opportunities, project managers in NGOs), including participants with fewer opportunities, were coming from 7 Program and Partner countries (Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Luxembourg, Moldova, Slovakia and Estonia). "Creative tools for Youth Workers" was a follow-up project idea, based mainly on graphic facilitation, visual and creative thinking and how those tools can be used in non-formal education, making it more inclusive. The graphic facilitation, implies drawing, storytelling with images, symbols, and doodles that simplify the complexity of information. It can be applied in very different situations and with multiple stakeholders. This project aimed at empowering young professionals, for importing creative and innovative tools and techniques in European Youth Work, making it more attractive for youngsters. Our objectives were: ● To promote inclusive and supportive interaction while dealing with activities (presentations, workshops, meetings, debriefings etc.); ● To foster creative approach within youth activities; ● To promote new EU funding opportunities in a visual way; ● To develop participants’ skills in graphic recording and visual thinking and other creative techniques; ● To support involvement of youngsters with fewer opportunities within youth activities (for example visual support for deaf people etc.). In order to achieve the aim and objectives following methods/tools have been planned and carried out: - Info-graphics (to communicate statistics and quantitative data visually, to make presentation more attractive; - Graphic recording (to create visual maps that synthesize and present the key meaning/elements of a speech, conveying the message in the most efficient and pleasant way); - Visual storytelling (to tell stories employing the language of images, using different kind of communicative media such as photography, stop - motion animation, and murals). Different methodologies, used in non-formal education, were applied for realized activities namely presentations, panel discussions, group workshops and simulations. Tools and techniques related to graphic facilitation consisted a significant part of the training course. According to received feedback the participants, through them also their sending organizations, got inspired and empowered to use delivered tools in their daily work and activities. Learned tools should serve to improve and to make the activities more attractive, clear and visible, as well as to raise their quality. As an added value of the project participants gained new skills and competences related to intercultural learning and project management. Product wise, were created five great video materials out of which four videos were a result of the participants' work and one was done by the organizers. The videos were disseminated through the local and international networks in which are involved promoting organizations. As a result of this training course the participants have been empowered with powerful and useful techniques, that they can and will use not only as youth workers but also during their other works, studies etc. Spreading of these techniques, combined with the methods used in non-formal education, is considered as longer term benefit. This will help to deliver clearer messages, to break down barriers related to communication, to implement and to enlarge opportunities for participation and involvement of young people with fewer opportunities by making activities and provided information more accessible for them.
