The Educational Robotics and Science Organization is guided by the necessity to cultivate digital competencies among the total population of Cyprus and to invest on science and technology as levers for upgrading the human potential and empowering people, as a way of increasing the economic prospective of any country. A high percentage of teachers or trainers of other professionals are in reality real digital immigrants and cannot serve the needs of a high percentage of other people and especially young persons who are becoming progressively digital natives. From this perspective the Educational Robotics and Science Organization plans to organize abroad training for 20 teachers or professional trainers, so that they can upgrade their own digital competencies and innovative strategies for designing pedagogically appropriate learning environments, taking advantage the added value of technology and understanding that the technological tools per se are not as important as the ways they are employed in technology-enhanced teaching/learning situations or in distance learning. . . The 2o0 teachers/trainers are continuously collaborating with our organization and we plan to use them as teachers/trainers for training other professionals. so that the expected results can be disseminated among wider populations of teachers/trainers. Using this approach, we envisage upgrading the digital competencies of the Cyprus human potential, while the formation of professional learning communities in Cyprus and across Europe will be encouraged. We do hope that this kind of opportunities will provide incentives to teachers/trainers to be involved in exchanges of personnel and facilitate the involvement in other European projects as well. Thus, multiple objectives can be achieved, such as, the formation of European identity, the intensification of economic activities (i.e., the electronic commerce, and the facilitation of electronic government in Cyprus and across Europe. Similar attempts seem to be a good recipe for encouraging the mobility of labour potential and can contribute to increased productivity and competitiveness of European Institutions. They can also effectively fight against the high unemployment within Europe, especially among young people and women. Any similar strategies and intensification of attempts can also bridge the digital divide among countries and among generations of people. Additionally, the involved teachers/trainers can develop positive attitudes towards long life learning and self –education, contributing to the acceleration of European integration and economic development. Obviously, these attempts emphasize the increased importance of science and technology for continuously transforming our social and economic environments and for progressively solving the problems facing our planet.
