Creating Future
Start date: Mar 1, 2016,
End date: Feb 28, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
50 young people at the age from 16 - 25 years from Poland, Greece, Italy, France and Germany will meet in July 2016 for 2 weeks in Kassel to think and talk about power and powerlessness and to create dancing- and theatre scenes and songs to show their experiences, fears and wishes concerning this topic. We live in Europe, a federation of states in which the law, politics and economics constitute the framework of coexistence. "Creating future together" has many facets and there are many actors and stakeholders - more or less powerful, more or less popular or influential. Looking at the situation in Greece we have an example for blackmail and being at someone’s mercy on high level of politics and economy. But also in everyday life of everyone there are a lot of examples for power and powerlessness. We want to ask:Can young people change the world with their commitment? Can they take part in shaping the future?Which are their ideas, their desires? What influence do we have? What do we want to achieve? How can we recognize and respond developments? What are the burning issues? How do we identify the important questions together? For example, in the social areas of the Community: migration, integration, respect and diversity - peace and security, social cohesion and sense-making of our lives? In the field of economics: conditions of every day life, sustainable economic development and environmental sustainability - access and participation in the economic development and the wealth created? How do we create the knowledge we need to be able to have a say, to participate in discussions concerning our life? To whom do we talk to? With whom should we talk about? What are the strategies of recognizing, to speak, to take action? What is influence, how can we claim it?The participants think about their own experiences (might be individual situations as well as social, economic or political situations) at school, looking for a job, in free time.We will meet people, who experience powerlessness (refugees, unemployed, homeless); We will meet people, who make decisions concerning the everyday life of other persons (employment exchange, civil servants , politicians); We will meet organizations, who support ‘powerless’ people or where people are organizing themselves (trade union, migrants services, citizens’ action groups); We will do exercises and role plays to feel power and powerlessness.;In creative workshops (theatre, dancing, singing) the participants will describe experiences of power and powerlessness, show fears and hopes and develop ideas to create future. At the end of the project there will be a public presentation in a culture house in Kassel. The participants will improve their creative, intercultural and social skills, they will improve their language skills and develop ideas for their own influence and possibilities to create future.
