FINISHED
Project “Create your own Diver.city” took place in September-October 2014 near Lviv, Ukraine. 35 participants (young people, youth workers) were invited from 5 countries (Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Sweden, Georgia).
Our aim was to facilitate the understanding of the diversity as a factor that empowers the society and to exchange the personal experience of living in different cultures and combining different identities. Also attention was paid to the solving of conflicts and combating discriminatory practices, importance of identity (culture, language, nationality, religion) in individual experience and cultural exchange; intercultural dialog in Europe, participant countries, localities, families; universal values and human rights.
As a place for the youth exchange, we chose the region in Ukraine that can serve as a good example of multicultural coexistence and cooperation – Lviv region. Project included two main elements: Advanced Preliminary Meeting (APV) and Main Meeting. Main Meeting took place in October, 11-18, 2014.
The project activities included interactive learning sessions on relevant topics and practical workshops (Forum Theater, video, Oxford debates and discussion workshops). Besides that, participants had a trip to Lviv, which included visit to a local organisation “Center for Urban History of East Central Europe” and to the City Council where they could learn about city past and present realities. Also participants had evening activities (games, national presentations, movie screening).
As a result, the project had the following impact on the participants: raising awareness of the diversity, identities and intercultural dialog in Europe; knowledge about universal values and human rights, sources of discrimination and xenophobia and the ways of combating them; skills of solving conflicts by mediation; personal and interpersonal development; improving of communication skills in foreign languages.
In addition, it supported partnership building for future international cooperation for East West East network as some new project ideas were discussed during the project and implemented later.
